Invisible Labors: Exploring Home Care Work Through Curated Collections

Rosalyn Washington, Elizabeth Fournier,

This project examines historical and contemporary experiences of home healthcare workers, nannies, and nurses. The course explores photographic and oral narratives, alongside diverse archives, to delve into the complex dynamics of this feminized and often undervalued labor.

The course employs a critical lens to examine both the voice and image of workers and clients. Historical collections shape understanding of cultural, social and political forces leading to the workforce crisis in healthcare and education. Students will engage with critical theory, guest historians and archivists, collaborative research, and co-create a digital collection.
