Disability and American Art Histories: Digital Access and Creativity at Winterthur Museum
Jennifer Van Horn, Catharine Dann Roeber,
In fall 2026, students in Professor Jennifer Van Horn’s graduate seminar Disability and American Art Histories will co-curate a digital exhibition that makes select artifacts from Winterthur Museum and Library accessible to those who are blind or low vision. Students’ creative engagement will help to “crip” or critically reframe the collection to recognize the ways that artifacts have been and continue to be vital sites for disabled persons’ experiences, connections, and community. We will welcome speakers including Philly Touch Tours, undertake an alt-text writing workshop, and be guided by an advisory council as we focus on access, inclusivity, and cultural preservation.
